ৰত্নাকৰৰ কাহিনী শুনাই আইতাই কয়

কোনেও ল’ব নালাগে কাৰো পাপৰ ভাৰ, কাৰো পাপৰ ভাগ কোনেও নলয়;

পিছে আইতাই জানে, আইতাই জানে, কথাখিনি সঁচা নহয়;

আনৰ পাপৰ ভৰত মধুবালা আইতাৰ চকুৰ জেউতী ঢুকায়।  

ইউটিউবৰ গান চলাই থৈ আন কিবাকিবি কামত লাগি আছিলোঁ এপৰ।

দোহাৰৰ দেখিছোঁ ৰূপসাগৰে মনৰ মানুহ কেঁচাসোণ গানটো বাজি আছিল।

DHANANJOY NATH, Kokrajhar, June 26, 2019

In a case of mistaken identity, Madhubala Mandal, who has spent more than three years in a detention camp for foreigners in Kokrajhar district of Assam, finally walked free on June 26th, 2019.

59-year-old Madhubala was released after the police admitted to their goof-up before the Foreigners’ Tribunal. It may be mentioned that Madhubala, who is a resident of Bishnupur village of Bijni Sub-division in Chirang district of Assam, was declared a ‘foreigner’ instead of one Madhumala Das from the same village.

“The tribunal had issued the notice in the name of Madhumala Das but the police arrested Madhubala Mandal and sent her to the detention centre. Madhumala and her husband Makhan Nama Das died long before the notice was issued to the former by the tribunal,” the locals had earlier alleged.

Relatives of Madhubala said that her husband Ramakanta Mandal died a few years ago and their only daughter is deaf and dumb.

Chirang Superintendent of Police, Sudhakar Singh said,”When I received the complaint that Madhubala Mandal has become a victim of mistaken identity and has been sent to the detention centre, I swung into action and appealed to the court, supported by a detailed report following which the tribunal on June 25th, 2019 issued an order to release her.”

Earlier, the All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) had lambasted the Assam Police (Border branch) and Foreigners’ Tribunals and demanded the early release of Madhubala. On June 10th, 2019, AAMSU president Rejaul Karim Sarkar along with other members visited Madhubala’s family and donated clothes and food items.
